The first step in working with me is to schedule a connection call.

But, wait a minute...

WTF Is a Connection Call?

Most coaching businesses follow the same approach. They offer potential clients a "discovery call" or "strategy session." But instead of a genuine conversation, these calls are often just sales pitches disguised as coaching sessions. Unfortunately, many coaches have been taught that high-pressure tactics are the only way to sell coaching.

But there is a better way: one based on trust, transparency and genuine connection. That's why I use connection calls instead. There's no manipulation, no pressure, just a conversation to see if we're the right fit. If you're tired of salesy coaching calls, keep reading.

What Makes a Connection Call Different?

A connection call isn't about selling; it's about mutual fit. Here's how it differs from a traditional discovery call:

  • Transparent pricing. My prices are on my website, so you don't need to call to discover what I charge.

  • No high-pressure tactics. I don't try to convince you to sign up for coaching.

  • A genuine conversation. We focus on what you need help with, not what I want to sell.

  • Two-way assessment. It's as much about you deciding if I'm right for you as it is about me deciding if I can help you.

  • A clear next step. If we're a good match, you can schedule a free coaching session to experience my coaching style firsthand before committing to anything. Think of a connection call as a first date rather than a marriage proposal.

What Happens in a Connection Call?

We chat for 20-30 minutes via Zoom. Here's what we cover:

1. Getting to Know Each Other

I want to understand your world, what you're working on, what's challenging you and what led you to consider coaching with me. This conversation is about discovering whether I can help you.

2. Understanding Your Coaching Experience

Most people I speak with have never worked with a coach before, and that's fine. If you have, I'll ask about your past experiences (and what worked and what didn't). Either way, I'll ask about your expectations and preferences so I can evaluate whether my approach to coaching will work for you.

3. Determining if We're a Good Fit

Not every client is right for me, and I'm not right for every client. If your needs fall outside my expertise, I'll tell you. And, wherever possible, I'll refer you to another coach who's a better fit.

4. Checking for Compatibility

Coaching is a personal relationship, and chemistry matters. This call is a chance for us both to see if we click. If something feels off, there's no pressure to move forward.

5. No Sales Pitch, Just Next Steps

The next step isn't a sales pitch. It's to schedule a free coaching session. The easiest way for you to understand what coaching with me involves is to experience coaching with me. If you find it valuable, we have a follow-up call to discuss whether you'd like to continue.

What Happens After the Connection Call?

If we both feel like we're a good fit, here's what happens next:

  1. You schedule a free, full-length coaching session. There is no sales pitch, just authentic coaching.

  2. You take time to reflect. Implement what you've learned and see how it feels.

  3. We have a follow-up chat. I will check to see how things went and ask whether you'd like to continue working together.

  4. You make your own choice. If coaching feels right, great! If not, that's fine, too. There's no pressure either way.

Why This Works Better Than a Sales Call

Coaching should be about service, not sales. That's why my approach works:

  • You make a decision based on experience, not persuasion. Coaching isn't like buying a piece of furniture. It's an ongoing, personal process. You need to know how it feels before committing.

  • You remain in control throughout the process. There's no pressure to decide on the spot, and you have time to reflect and assess whether coaching with me is the right step for you. This breathing space is crucial to making a confident decision.

  • I only work with people I genuinely connect with. Because we both get to assess compatibility, I don't take on clients who aren't a natural fit. This mutual assessment leads to better coaching results for my clients and better long-term business results for me.

  • No one feels manipulated. Let's be honest: no one likes to be sold to. And I hate selling. This process respects your autonomy and allows you to make a decision that feels right for you. There’s no sales pressure, just a genuine conversation.

The Bottom Line: Coaching Without the Sales Nonsense

If you're tired of pushy sales calls and want to explore whether coaching is right for you in a safe, low-pressure way, a connection call is the perfect first step. It's a conversation, not a pitch. If coaching with me is right for you, you'll know. If not, that's fine too. Either way, you walk away with more clarity than when you started.
